Marlins Battling Injuries, among other things.
The Marlins listed two of their young stars on the day-to-day list today. For anyone that doesn’t know, the Marlins were leading the majors in a not-so delightful list… "Most Players on the DL"..Today, just added the icing to the cake. Miguel Cabrera, who made a play Saturday against the LA Dodgers jammed his left shoulder. While on the mound, Scott Olsen was taken out after 1 inning of work with a stiff back. Both of these players in my opinion, are critical to a young Marlins team. For obvious reasons, Cabrera is a major part of this lineup and leader of that clubhouse. While Olsen, who has established himself as a starting pitcher for Florida, is a dependent arm who us as fans, and they as the organization rely on for a good outing.
Amongst Injuries:
I love the Marlins. I want whats best for them. But I have to ask myself can we really get where we need to be after the break without Cabs? Olsen? I sure hope this day to day thing is over soon.
My intake on Cabrera is like many of the others. The kid is talented, and a huge part of the marlins. My intake on Olsen is that even though he has had a well documented temper, he is a very talented pitcher who is young and can be even better in the years to come. Olsen can only develop as a player. He’s got what it takes to be at this level and the pressure of it all doesn’t seem to bother him. He can handle it … he was born to be here.
Now as the all star game approaches I’ll try to distract myself with it until July 13th as the Marlins open a home-stand vs. the Washington Nationals, the St. Louis Cardinals and The Cincinnati Reds. I hope the Marlins ave patched themselves up and are ready to get to that .500 mark!
In Good News:
Hanley Ramirez is on!!! and no signs of him stopping. Saturday, he went 4 for 5, while he hit two homeruns on Friday. It’s been a good road trip for Hanley, who battled against a hamstring injury earlier in the road trip. Let’s hope he can stretch it HOME!!!!!!
Cannot wait for the Marlins to arrive!

What Makes A Cabrera?
What makes a 4 time All-Star third baseman? What makes a 24 year old kid be the leader of his team? What makes up Miguel Cabrera?
I can answer that. Any Marlins fan can.
It takes Heart, Hustle, Power, Ability, the right set of mind, Goal Orientation and s deep sense of humility.
Miguel Cabrera was born with baseball imprinted in his blood. A venezuelan baseball player for a father, a Venezuelan nationally ranked softball player for a mother, and a minor league uncle.
Miguel was just an innocent 20 year old when he made his debut for the 2003 Florida Marlins and ever since he’s been this generations "Superstar" in the Marlins’ world. He was a world champion in his first big league year.
I watch him play, from my seat in the batter’s box at the DS…and I think to myself…"I’m so lucky to see a player of this caliber develop". Over his four years in the majors and as the face of the Marlins, he has established a brilliant career and promises to be more than just a Marlins superstar in the future. I think of him and I think "Raw Power". He has 59 RBI’s in this season and 121 career homeruns. Not to mention he just tied the game in LA, top of the 9th, 1 out, one on… with a double. =]
Fun Fact: After each Miguel Cabrera homerun, watchout for a Cabs’ Amazing Homer Dance. Miguel and Alfredo Amezaga combine after each ‘touch ‘em all’ to make laughs as they dance a "quebradita" like dance.
Fun fact 2: Miguel is the first Marlin to make it to the All Star game 4 times. He will be participating in this years All Star Homerun Derby…his second time, after finishing third in last year’s Derby.
Fact for the Fans: Miguel is very approchable, kids! Get to a Marlins game around the time the gates open and catch BP. If he’s hanging out, he’ll be easy to get an autograph. But keep in mind, Dolphin Stadium is a football stadium and not very fan friendly. get as close to the Marlins dugout, or get some seats in the Batter’s Box or Founders Field to have access to the underground tunels and batting cages. For such tix please check www.floridamarlins.com, click on tickets. Look for the Ticket Marketplace, where season ticket holders sell their stubs. See, these tickets are not open to the public.
The Power of Uggla
"His Name is Dan Uggla!"…that what you hear marlins announcers Rich Waltz and Tommy Hutton say after every home-run from our 2006 All Star Marlin second baseman. Personally, I think Uggla deserves much more than a chant and a group of fans who called themselves ‘Uggla’s Ugglies’ at every Tuesday home game. He has as many homers on the 07 season as Miguel Cabrera and even though his numbers on the K column can be alarming, the kid is clutch. Over the last year I have built a certain type of confidence in Danny. I like his approach, his defense, his bat.
Let’s review the stats:
.249 AVG, 17 HR, 50 RBIs, 32 doubles, 33 Walks, and has played every game of the season.
Granted Uggla has been "Struggla" at the plate lately (The nick was given by a fellow Message Board fan) but when he’s on, he’s on. He has heart, he has the right teammates techniques, and the fact that he’s so approachable for the fans makes him an obvious fan favorite.
So to any fish fan out there: Pay attention to the man who comes up to the plate when Roy Jones "Cant Be Touched" is playing. He’s our future at second base and should be more than just our second baseman, he should be our new superstar.
Fight of The Fish (A Round up of San Diego)
It’s no old news that the Marlins have been struggling lately. I have witnessed, seen and lived the pain. Sure we have great young stars like Cabrera and Uggla, but we have major holes that need some patching… quick!. After a series split in San Diego I thought, well at least we didnt get swept. To tell you the truth a sweep from the Pads is what I expected with the starters they had on the mound, such as Peavy and Young. But behind the submarines throws of Byung Byung Kim, the fish earned a much needed split. Notice I said split. The Marlins havent been upto caliber. Cabrera is slumping going 0-10 in San Diego, and what hurts is that if Miggy slumps, so does everyone. The heart of the order flatlined, and much of the runs only came out of the bats of Hermida (RF) and Amezaga (CF/SS). Injuries plagued the team over the week. Johnson heads to the 15 day DL with forearm tightness and Hanley Ramirez was day-to-day with a hamstring injury. Hamstrongs have been a very touchy part for the fish. Ross is out with the hamstring, Mitre is still watching it, and now Hanley has to be careful. Hopefully, when the guys play the Dodgers, everyone can survive the injuries and get some runs!
Love & Marlins baseball!,
Claudia <3
Ps: We’re losing 5-3 to the LA Dodgers.
